Tata Steel organises its first-ever virtual SHE Excellence Awards 2020

Jamshedpur, Nov 18: To celebrate the contributions of the torchbearers and evangelists in the journey of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE), Tata Steel organised its first-ever virtual SHE Excellence Awards on November 17, 2020, to recognise the safety champions of tomorrow.

T V Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel, graced the award ceremony as the Chief Guest. Koushik Chatterjee, ED & Chief Financial Officer, Sanjiv Paul, Vice President (Safety, Health & Sustainability), all Vice Presidents and employees of Tata Steel attended the virtual award ceremony from across all the Company locations.

T V Narendran said: â€œTata Steel embarked on the journey of Safety long ago and we need to be consistent in what we do by bringing in systemic interventions. Safety is a mindset which we need to inculcate, and I expect passion, commitment, and perseverance from all of us to bring in the required cultural change.

I congratulate all the winners of SHE Awards 2020 and urge them to continue to be evangelists, role-models and change-makers. The fact that we haven’t reached our destination yet should motivate us to work harder aspire for a zero-fatality workplace. SHE Excellence Awards 2020 is a great initiative to appreciate the good work done by individuals and teams.

Sanjiv Paul said: â€œWhilst we have state-of-the-art equipment, world-class processes for delivery on Health, Safety & Environment (SHE), it is the competency, capability & commitment of our people which drives the culture of excellence in the organisation. As we move forward, we need to leverage individual contributions and collaborative team effort to pursue our objective of becoming industry benchmark in Safety, Health and Environment. SHE Excellence Awards is one such initiative to recognise the brilliance of people in our quest towards zero harm.

Vijay Kumar Nirala, Chief Safety, Tata Steel, elaborated on the journey of Safety Rewards & Recognition Policy in Tata Steel and described the awards criteria in detail. Amit Ranjan Chakraborty, Chief Environment, Tata Steel, talked about Company`s focus on operational excellence through 4Rs – Reduce, Recover, Re-use and Recycle approach.

Safety Evangelists awards were given to Adarsh Agarwal, Head Wet Processing, OMQ Division, Amit Roy, Senior Manager, EEI, Tubes Division, Naresh Kumar Dhal, Senior Manager, Lime Plant Operations, Steel Manufacturing Division and Hariom Sharma, Senior Manager Electrical Maintenance – SMS & LCP, Tata Steel Kalinganagar.

Apex Safety Torchbearer Award, Apex Health Torchbearer Award and Apex Environment Torchbearer Award were bagged by Engineering Services of Jharia Division, Bearings, Kharagpur of Marketing & Sales Division and LD2 & Slab Caster of Tata Steel Jamshedpur respectively.
