Jamshedpur: The Municipal General Elections 2026 for the post of President of the Jugsalai Municipal Council witnessed an intense and closely fought battle, culminating in a dramatic finish after the four rounds of counting. The contest remained on edge till the very last moments, with two leading candidates locked in a neck-and-neck race that kept supporters and officials on tenterhooks.
According to the final counting update, Nausheen Khan, wife of Minority Commission chairman Hidayattullah Khan emerged victorious with a total of 11,563 votes, narrowly defeating his closest rival BJP supported Rinku Singh, who secured 10,843 votes. The slim margin of 720 votes reflected the fierce competition and a sharply divided mandate among voters.
The counting centre witnessed high drama throughout the day as early trends showed frequent lead changes between the two frontrunners. Both camps expressed confidence of victory, and supporters gathered in large numbers, raising slogans and celebrating each round of counting.
Among the other candidates, Dolly Mallick secured 895 votes, while Balbir Kaur received 548 votes. Nilufar Hussain garnered 212 votes, followed by Mussarat Khatun with 184 votes, Indu Devi with 179 votes, and Jaspreet Kaur with 93 votes.
Election officials ensure tight security and smooth conduct of counting amid heightened excitement. As the final round concluded, jubilant supporters of Naushaan Khan erupted in celebrations, marking the end of one of the most closely contested municipal elections in recent times.

Khan has further strengthened her position in the Jugsalai Municipal Council president race after the second round of counting. She secured a total of 11,468 votes and was currently leading by a margin of 6,507 votes over her nearest rival, Rinku Singh.
