Naval Tata Hockey Academy Jamshedpur gets off to blistering start

2nd Hockey India Junior Men Academy National Championship kicks off

Army Boys Sports Company beat Hubli Hockey Academy 19-0

Jamshedpur, April 20: Hosts Naval Tata Hockey Academy, Jamshedpur set the NTHA ground in Telco alight with a crisp display of hockey and a 10-0 thumping of Bhai Behlo Hockey Academy, Bhagta (Punjab) in 2nd Hockey India Junior Men Academy National Championship 2022 on Wednesday, April 20.

The championship is being held in association with Hockey India at the Naval Tata Hockey Academy (NTHA), Jamshedpur.

Six matches were played on the opening day of the championship. In other matches Namdhari XI defeated Jai Bharat Hockey Academy 12-1 and Gumanhera Risers Academy succumbed to 2-4 defeat against SAIL Hockey Academy.

SAI Academy thrashed Malwa Hockey Academy 18-2 and Army Boys Sports Company beat Hubli Hockey Academy 19-0 to register the biggest win of the day in terms of goal difference. V Raja Hockey Academy got better of Berar Hockey Academy with 2-0 win. Six matches will be played on day 2 of the championship on Thursday, April 21.   

The championship will be conducted from April 20 to May 1, 2022, and will witness the participation of 31 teams comprising 550+ players and officials from Hockey India.

Over 100 coaches and training staff, including renowned Olympians like Sameer Daad, Olympian and Arjuna Awardee from Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy, and Rajender Singh from Round Glass Punjab Hockey Academy are also part of the national championship.

Earlier during the inaugural ceremony, Gyanendro Ningombam, President, Hockey India, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He welcomed the teams and officials and praised NTHA`s state-of-the-art facilities. He also went on to say that he was looking forward to many more championships being organised by the academy in future.

Guest of Honour for the occasion Bhola Nath Singh, Vice President, Hockey India & President, Hockey Jharkhand, wished the players good luck for the championship.

Dharmendra Singh, Vice President, Hockey Jharkhand, Bijay Shankar Singh, Secretary, Hockey Jharkhand, Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, CEO, Jamshedpur Football Club & Chief Sports Excellence Centres, Tata Steel, Ashish Kumar, CEO, Hockey Ace Foundation & Head (Sports), Tata Steel, and senior officials of the Tata Steel Sports Department and Naval Tata Hockey Academy were also present on the occasion.
