Jamshedpur: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Tuesday announced new office-bearers for the year 2016-17. Dr Naushad Forbes, co-chairman, Forbes Marshall, has assumed office as the new President of CII. He takes over from Sumit Mazumder, chairman and managing director, TIL Limited.
Dr Naushad Forbes is the co-chairman of Forbes Marshall, India’s leading Steam Engineering and Control Instrumentation firm. He chairs the Steam Engineering Companies within the group. From 1987 to 2004, he was a lecturer and consulting professor at Stanford University where he developed courses on technology in newly industrializing countries.
Dr Forbes is on the Board of several educational institutions and public companies. He has chaired the CII National Committees on Higher Education, Innovation, Technology and International Business. He received his Bachelors, Masters and PhD Degrees from Stanford University.
Shobana Kamineni, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd, has taken over as President-Designate, CII. AHEL is Asia’s foremost integrated healthcare organization. Ms Kamineni helms the Apollo Global Projects Consultancy, which steers the planning, design and execution of new projects. She also heads Apollo Pharmacy, presently the fastest growing business within AHEL.
In addition, Kamineni is vice-chairperson of the KEI Group, a diversified logistics, leisure and infrastructure business. She is an active member of CII and has been a recipient of prestigious national awards for entrepreneurship and leadership.
Kamineni holds a B.A. in Economics from Stella Maris College, Chennai and an accelerated Diploma in Hospital Administration from Columbia University, New York.
Rakesh Bharti Mittal, vice-chairman, Bharti Enterprises, is the new vice-president, CII. Bharti Enterprises is one of India’s leading business groups with interests in telecom, agri and food business, financial services, retail, realty, and communication & media devices.
Mittal is the chairman of Bharti AXA Life Insurance, Bharti AXA General Insurance and FieldFresh Foods. He is also a non-executive director of Bharti Airtel and managing director of Bharti Realty Holdings.
Mittal is a member of the National Council of the CII since 1999. He was the chairman of its Northern Regional Council. Mittal serves on Boards of several educational institutions. He is a Life Trustee and the co-chairman of Bharti Foundation.
