Jamshedpur: Recognizing the importance of the role of science teachers in promoting the overall interest of students in science, the Jharkhand State Chapter of The National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) has instituted an award, named ‘The Best Science Teacher Award’ since 2017.
Objective of instituting the award is to recognize a teacher every year, teaching science in High Schools / Higher Secondary Schools / Intermediate Colleges and other equivalent institutions, for distinction achieved by him/her in stimulating students to express their talent in and understanding of science, specially through participation in co-curricular and out-of-the-classroom science activities. Awards are given in the junior and senior category respectively.
Award includes a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a citation. Dr. Arvind Sinha, Chairman of the chapter has informed that for the year 2020-21, three teachers namely Sumit Kumar Gorai (TGT) Delhi Public School Bokaro Steel City, Asheesh Mishra (PGT), Atomic Energy Central School, Jaduguda and Ramanuj Kumar (PGT), Kendriya Vidyalaya, Tatanagar have been selected for the Best Teacher Award in the two categories respectively.
Awardees will be given away the awards during the National Science Day celebrations at NML auditorium on Feb 26. Dr R. P. Joshi, Founder and CEO, RI Instruments & Innovation Pvt Ltd, and Managing Director RINZTECH NZ LTD, New Zealand will be the chief guest and will give away the prizes, he will also deliver the National Science Day lecture entitled “Cost effective Raman and Fluorescence spectroscopy in India”.
