National Panchayati Raj Day Meet: Union ministers inspect JRD Sports Complex

Jamshedpur, April 16: Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Nihal Chand Meghwal, and the Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Sudarshan Bhagat on Saturday took stock of preparations for successful hosting of National Panchayati Raj Day function to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here at the JRD Tata sports complex on April 24.

According to information, both the ministers went to the venue and met with the officials there. A meeting was also convened in which senior district officials participated.

�The ministers took stock of the huge pavilion at the sports complex and gave important instructions for safety and security.

A huge pavilion is being constructed of the dimension 300 feet x 80 feet and around 10 LED screens will be installed at the galleries for better view of the program from the huge stadium (having a capacity in excess of 35,000),� said an official of district administration.

The dais (60 feet x 42 feet) will have two portable washrooms one to be used for Prime Minister and other by VVIPs delegates like Chief Ministers, Union ministers and senior bureaucrats from Delhi.

He informed that on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, Prime Minister Modi launched the �Gram Uday se Bharat Uday ABhiyan,� a flagship mission with programs themed on social harmony.

The campaign will conclude on the National Panchayati Raj Day on April 24, when PM Modi will address all gram sabhas in the country from Jamshedpur. The scheme is being touted as a novel idea which will go long way in bringing the development of villages closer to urban areas.

Incidentally, Union panchayati raj ministry additional secretary Sharma who had visited the city to take stocks of the preparation earlier this month, Rashmi Shukla also held a video-conferencing with the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner yesterday evening about the arrangements of the program.

�We are following the norms laid out by SPG and advice given by Union ministry in construction of the Pavilion and hangars for the April 24 program at JRD Tata Sports Complex and also at the Mohan Ahuja Indoor Stadium and the archery ground.

Different cells have been constituted to look into various activities and a review meeting of the cells is being held on a daily basis,� said East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal who visits the venue every day in the evening.
