Jamshedpur: The District Legal Services Authority (DALSA) is gearing up to organize the National Lok Adalat on December 14, 2024, as part of a nationwide initiative to settle the maximum number of cases through mutual reconciliation. Addressing media persons at Nyay Sadan Bhawan, Secretary of DLSA, Rajendra Prasad, highlighted the extensive preparations being undertaken to ensure the success of this event in East Singhbhum district.
Prasad announced that the National Lok Adalat will be conducted at Jamshedpur Civil Court and Ghatsila Civil Court, where all types of reconcilable cases, including civil disputes and pre-litigation matters, will be taken up. Special emphasis is being placed on pre-litigation cases to resolve disputes before they escalate into prolonged legal battles. Meetings with banks, financial institutions, and other departments are ongoing to streamline the resolution process and ensure active participation.
DLSA continues its commitment to providing free legal aid to marginalized sections of society. Prasad outlined that women, individuals from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and persons with disabilities are eligible for free legal representation and court fee assistance. Additionally, under the Legal Aid Defense Council (LADC) initiative, nine legal experts have been appointed to support undertrial prisoners in securing justice.
DALSA has been proactive in raising awareness about legal rights and government schemes. Regular legal awareness campaigns are conducted to educate the public about their rights and the availability of free legal aid. Prasad also urged the families of road accident victims to approach DALSA for compensation and legal assistance. Victims of sexual assault can access similar support, including financial compensation.
The National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) has also launched a toll-free helpline, 15100, to provide legal advice and support. Prasad encouraged citizens to utilize this resource to address legal concerns.
Para Legal Volunteers Deployed at Police Stations
Jamshedpur: In a significant move to enhance legal accessibility, one Para Legal Volunteer (PLV) has been deputed to every police station in East Singhbhum district. These volunteers will be available two days a week to inform individuals about their legal rights, assist victims in filing and registering First Information Reports (FIRs), and guide those involved in crimes towards seeking legal aid. To instill legal awareness among the youth, Legal Literacy Clubs have been established in most schools in East Singhbhum district. These clubs aim to educate students about their legal rights and duties, fostering a culture of lawfulness from an early age.
Prasad emphasized the collaborative approach of the National Lok Adalat, which brings together courts, legal professionals, and stakeholders to resolve disputes amicably. This initiative not only reduces the burden on the judiciary but also fosters a culture of mutual understanding and reconciliation.
With robust preparations and a dedicated focus on resolving as many cases as possible, the National Lok Adalat on December 14 promises to make a significant impact in providing swift and affordable justice to the people of East Singhbhum district.
