Jamshedpur, Mar 27: A three-day national conference on “Biotechnology for Sustainable Development” was inaugurated at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra, as part of the institute’s 70th-anniversary celebrations. The event aims to foster discussions on scientific advancements in biotechnology and its role in sustainability.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Anurag Agarwal from Ashoka University, Sonepat, who delivered a keynote address on “AI: The Invisible Microscope in Biology.” He highlighted AI’s potential in disease detection, personalized medicine and the development of new antibodies like ‘Abosin.’ Dr. Alok Krishna Sinha from the National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), New Delhi, was present as a distinguished guest.
BIT Mesra Vice-Chancellor Professor Indranil Manna emphasized the role of biotechnology in sustainable growth, while Professor Kunal Mukhopadhyay, Head of the Department of Bioengineering and Biotechnology and conference convener Dr. Shashwati Ghosh Sachan, shared insights on emerging research.
Sessions featured experts like Dr. Pinaki Sar from IIT Kharagpur, who discussed biosafety policies and Dr. Sujay Rakshit from IIAB Ranchi, who presented a breakthrough in winged bean genome sequencing.
The conference will continue for two more days, providing a platform for researchers, academicians and industry professionals to exchange knowledge and explore innovations in biotechnology and sustainability.
