Jamshedpur: On the occasion of Pongal, Madrasi Sammelani today organised an instrumental music programme at its premises. On the occasion, artists from Layavinyas, a cultural performed in the programme which enthralled the audience.
B Muthuraman, former Vice-Chairman of Tata Steel, accompanied by his wife Sumathi Muthuraman, graced the function.
Earlier, N Rammurty, Vice-Chairman, Board of Governors, Madrasi Sammelani welcomed the guests and introduced the artists.
N Shankar on Mrudangam, Natraj Radhakrishnan on Violin, Mandola Joy on Mandolin, Arindam Chakraborty on tabla, Somnath Roy on Ghatam and Rupak Mukherjee on Flute who performed in the programme kept the audience spellbound.
In his address, B Muthuraman appreciated the efforts put in by the Madrasi Sammelani to keep up the ethos and organizing cultural programmes regularly. He further added that for the last 100 years the Sammelani has catered to the cultural needs of the community for which it was founded but now the time has come to involve other communities as well and other social work also. He said that steps should be taken to proceed in that direction immediately. By this way, he stated that it will be possible to get more people to attend to the programmes.
Later, B Chandrasekhar, Chairman, Board of Governors of Madrasi Sammelani, proposed vote of thanks. K S Narayan, Balasubramanyam, B Visweswaran, S Seshadri, S Ramesh and Gopalan contributed to make the programme a success.
