Musical confluence of North and South marks Pongal celebrations

Jamshedpur: Madrasi Sammelani, as part of its centenary celebrations, organized a musical evening on its premises on 15th January to commemorate Pongal.

The programme, conducted by “Laya Vinyas”, a Kolkata based cultural organization, created an ensemble of north Indian as well as south Indian classical songs and performed with their instruments.

The concert played by N Krishnan on Mridangam, Mondol Joy on Mondol, Nataraj Radhakrishnan on Violin, Rupak Mukherjee on Flute, Arindam Chakravarti on Tabla and P V Sairam on Ghatam, kept the audience riveted. The 3-hour performance by the troupe left the spectators spellbound with their presentation.

Earlier, G Shankar, president, Madrasi Sammelani, welcomed the performing artists as well as the guests on the occasion. B Chandrasekhar, Chairman, Board of Trustees, V Natarajan, Secretary, Board of Trustees of Madrasi Sammelani, Bhanumathi Neelakanthan, chairperson, Dakshina Bharata Mahila Samaj, K V Srinivasan, Hony Treasurer, S Seshadri, member, S Ramesh, member, Managing Committee of Madrasi Sammelani were present on the occasion along with other members of the Sammelani.
