Jamshedpur, Jan. 10: Ace power lifter Parvinder Singh of Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra) was declared the strong man in the 83 kg category at the Subrata Classic National and International Power lifting Bench press and Dead lift championship-2016 held at The Milanee in Bistupur from 4 to 9 January, 2016.
International Gold Medalist, Singh received a gold medal and a trophy at the championship which he presented it to his friend and bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit’s ardent fan, Pappu Sardar as a memorabilia.
Maharashtra’s Parvinder Singh was adjudged the strong man in the 83 kg category (Open senior power lifting).
Parvinder elevated 240 kg in scott, 152.5 kg in bench press, 232.5 kg in dead lift while the total weight he elevated was 625 kg. Before leaving for Mumbai, Parvinder reached Manohar Chat in Sakchi and presented his trophy as gift to Pappu Sardar.
On the occasion, talking to the mediapersons, Parvinder Singh said, ‘I have been visiting Jamshedpur and participating in the championships at JRD Sports Complex for the last 12 years.
The first time when I came to the steel city I thought of marketing and went to Sakchi Bazar and later to Manohar Chat and met Pappu and found several pictures of Madhuri Dixit in the shop’, said Singh, adding, ‘when asked Pappu said, he is a big fan of Madhuri Dixit and from that time we have had a good friendship and regularly talk over the phone ‘. Parvinder who runs gymnasium in Mumbai was back in Jamshedpur after eight years.
‘I have been born and brought up in Jalandhar (Punjab) and was always interested in body building and love for the game took me to Mumbai, said, Bhusan Awardee, adding, ‘I took coaching at Sri Ganesh Gymnasium in Navi Mumbai in 2002 for six months and later visited several other gyms in and around Mumbai hoping to become a professional power lifter’.
Parvinder Singh has also won the All-India Strongman title at the Senior National Power Lifting Championship held in Karnataka.
