Multiple Express Trains Delayed at Tatanagar, Passengers Stranded

Jamshedpur: Despite repeated assurances and efficiency claims made by senior railway officials, train punctuality under the Tatanagar and Chakradharpur railway divisions continues to face severe disruptions. On Friday, hundreds of passengers were left stranded and inconvenienced at Tatanagar Station as a series of major express trains traveling from Mumbai via Bilaspur failed to run on schedule.

Major Trains Running Late

A ripple effect of operational delays severely impacted passenger schedules. Among the key long-distance trains running significantly behind schedule were:

• The Ahmedabad Express
• The Gitanjali Express
• The Kurla Express
• The Mumbai Mail

The platform areas at Tatanagar witnessed crowded scenes and growing frustration as families, corporate travellers, and daily commuters had to wait for hours due to the unpredictable delays.

The Root Cause: Source Stations Flayed

Railway technical experts and staff familiar with the matter revealed that the local division inherited these delays rather than causing them. The primary reason for the disruptions stems from trains being dispatched late from their originating and intermediate source stations. By the time these trains travel along the Mumbai-Howrah corridor to enter the Chakradharpur division, the delays accumulate, making it virtually impossible for the local administration to recover lost time.

Widespread Regional Delays

The issue is not isolated to Tatanagar. Neighbouring regional routes also faced heavy disruptions, highlighting a broader scheduling strain across the network:

• Itwari Express and Kantabanji-Howrah Steel Expressrecorded delays stretching past 6 hours.
• The Junagarh-Howrah Ispat Expressclocked an alarming delay of nearly 12 hours, despite a recent review and assurances given by the General Manager (GM) regarding structural improvements.
• Up north, the connectivity link to Bihar was equally battered, with over 15 trains arriving at Muzaffarpur delayed by up to 10 hours.
