Muharram observed amid tight security in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: Muharram was observed amid tight security in Jamshedpur with heavy police deployment in sensitive areas including Mango which have seen tensions in the recent days.

Thousands of Muslims took out processions today braving rains on the occasion of Muharram which passed off peacefully.

Processions carrying tazias and black flags and beating their chests in ceremonial mourning were taken out both in the metropolis as well as in the districts.
Muharram is a day of bereavement, when Muslims give to charity, observe fasts and pray in remembrance of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed who was martyred some 1330 years ago at Karbala in Iraq.

Police personnel in anti-riot gear, including six additional companies of police, RAF and CRPF were posted to deal with any situation in case of any emergency.

The processions here will start after the afternoon namaz (Zohar) and pass through routes which have already been identified and sterilized and end at the symbolic Karbala.

The procession began in the afternoon and remained truncated to cluster and not come toward the town as it used to be in earlier times. round 1,000 policemen have been deployed in the area and along the routes which will be closely monitored by senior police officials.

Meanwhile, police issued a WhatsApp number 7091091825 among the people for informing the district police about any person who tries to create disturbance by posting objectionable message through the social media during the observation of Muharram.

District administration has also restricted movement of heavy vehicles on the occasion of Muharram. The `no-entry’ will remain imposed from 9 am tomorrow till 6 am on Saturday.
