Jamshedpur, March 29: Jamshedpur MP Vidyut Varan Mahato met Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Minister for State for Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha on Wednesday and demanded establishment of airport in Jamshedpur.

He apprised the Union Minister about the increasing demand for airport as the whole Jharkhand depends on Ranchi airport.

Mahato told Ashok Gajapathi that Jamshedpur is the industrial capital of Jharkhand which houses several big companies of Tata group and others and developing better air connectivity in Jamshedpur is must for the region to prosper.

During the meeting, Union minister Raju said that he is aware of the need for an airport in Jamshedpur Lok Sabha region and told that he would soon send a team to study about the prospects for establishing the airport and the team can submit the physically test report of both the sites.

Union minister also asked the Jamshedpur MP to send a proposal in this regard from the state government to the union government . On the occasion Jayant Sinha assured of full cooperation and said that soon domestic flight service would start from Jamshedpur. There have been several demands made for an airport in Jamshedpur which houses some of the biggest corporate houses in the country.

Jamshedpur which is also known as the steel city or industrial town has seen local trade and industry bodies urging the state and central government several times to set up an airport in the region.

Absence of an airport in Jamshedpur or Adityapur has kept several industrialists away from the steel city despite their urge to invest. This has resulted in slow growth of the region. Moonka requested the union minister to issue departmental order on priority for setting up an airport in Jamshedpur.
