New Delhi/Ranchi, Feb 7: BJP MP Pradeep Kumar Verma raised his voice in Parliament today, demanding the inclusion of Kudmali, Mundari, Nagpuri, Khortha and Ho languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Addressing the House, he emphasized the significance of these languages in preserving Jharkhand’s cultural heritage.

“I stand here to urge the government to recognize the rich linguistic and cultural identity of Jharkhand by including these languages in the Eighth Schedule. They are not just modes of communication but integral to the history, society and traditions of lakhs of people,” he stated.

Verma cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks from Mann Ki Baat on February 22, 2022: “Just as our mother shapes our life, our mother tongue shapes our identity. Even after 75 years of independence, many hesitate to embrace their language and culture, which should be a matter of pride.”

Highlighting the historical relevance, he noted that Mundari was the language of Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s Ulgalan (rebellion) and Ho language is spoken widely in Singhbhum. Kudmali, Nagpuri and Khortha also hold deep literary and cultural significance in Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha.

The demand for their inclusion aims to protect and promote these indigenous languages, ensuring they receive official recognition and support.
