MP inaugurates reopening of Jadugora Uranium Project


Jamshedpur: Lying closed for the last four years, Jadugora Uranium Project got a new lease of life on Saturday as the Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato inaugurated the resumption of production at the mines. The CMD of Uranium Corporation of Idian Limited Dr CK Asnani was also present on the occasion.

Speaking as the chief guest, the MP said the resumption of production at the mines marked a fresh beginning of life for the people dependent on mining activities in the PSU. The cooperative attitude of the Central and state governments helped reopen the mines, said the MP.

Mahato said the Uranium Project had been renewed lease for 50 years. He said many roadblocks were removed in order to get Central nod for reopening the mines which was shut down on 7th December 2014.

With the resumption of production, the first mining contract at Jadugora mines was given to Singh Construction of Jadugora. The agency would begin work from 10th October onwards.

According to the UCIL CMD, todayís day is special for the company management and workers. He said he had taken charge of his office two years back. Reopening the mines was a major challenge as the files were stuck in Odisha, New Delhi and Jharkhand. Finally, on getting support from the MD, the mines could be reopened, he said.

Many dignitaries were present during the inaugural function. They included Executive Director PN Sarkar, Director (Finance) Debashish Ghosh, VK Singh, DGM Manoj Kumar, DGM Rajesh Kumar, mines manager KS Padiyar, Maheshwar Tiwary, Dinesh Kumar, Girish Singh, Sanju Barik, Amit Agrawal, Mana Mahanty and Uday Choudhary.
