Jamshedpur, March 14: The East Singhbhum District Rural Police have cracked a gang engaged in the modification and sale of stolen motorcycles. One of the gang members, identified as mechanic Shekhar Mandal from Bada Amda of Kowali, has been apprehended with 12 stolen bikes.
According to Rural SP Rishabh Garg, the gang, operating across state borders, specialized in the theft, modification, and resale of stolen motorcycles. Acting on a tip-off on Mandal’s involvement in the illicit trade, the police formed a team and made the arrest.

During the operation, Mandal confessed to receiving stolen bikes from other gang members for modification and subsequent sale. The gang reportedly divided the proceeds from the sales amongst themselves. Mandal admitted to engaging in this criminal activity for the past year and confessed to selling numerous stolen motorcycles.
The Kowali area, adjacent to Jamshedpur city, has emerged as a hotspot for bike thefts. Despite previous busts by the Kowali police, motorcycle thefts continue rampantly.
