Jamshedpur, Feb 22: Multilingual literary organization Sahyog organized a special event on Mother Language Day under the theme “Bhasha Ek, Boli Anek.” The program, held at DBMS College, featured poetry recitations in various languages, showcasing the richness of linguistic diversity.

Students presented poems in their mother tongues, including Ayush Parashar (Maithili), Reema Rai (Bengali), Gayatri Pradhan (Odia), Mariam Malto (Malayalam), Srishti Kumari (Rajasthani), K Ramya Sai (Telugu), Kumari Shivani Tudu (Santhali), Ankita Kumari (English), and Pranita Kumari (Khortha).

Chief Guest and social worker Ratna Bhattacharya spoke about the history of Mother Language Day and highlighted the alarming extinction of nearly 3,000 mother tongues worldwide. She encouraged students to take pride in their native languages and use them actively.

Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Joohi Samarpita emphasized the importance of embracing one’s mother tongue with pride. Under the direction of Pamela Ghosh Dutta, students paid tribute to India’s rivers through multilingual performances. A mesmerizing dance performance on Bhupen Hazarika’s song “Ganga Tum Bahti Ho Kyun” captivated the audience.
Program coordinator Dr. Kalyani Kabir introduced Sahyog’s future initiative, “Connect India with India,” which will continue throughout the year under the leadership of President Dr. Mudita Chandra.
The event was graced by Mrs. Sudha Dilip, Vidya Tiwari, Dr. Shakuntala Pathak, Mr. Hari Mittal, Mrs. Krishna Sinha, Mr. Neelambar Chaudhary, Mrs. Aruna Jha, Pushpanjali Mishra, Dr. Sheela, Mamta Karna Manju, and many others.
The program concluded with Dr. Pushpa Kumari, President of the Hindi Department at Jamshedpur Women’s University, stating, “English is a language of communication, but the mother tongue is the language of the heart.” The event was conducted by Madhuri Mishra.
