Jamshedpur: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on narcotics, the Mango police arrested the mother of notorious criminal Wasim ‘Baccha’ during a late-night raid on Wednesday at her residence in Azadnagar, Road No. 5. She was caught red-handed while selling brown sugar, a highly addictive and illegal narcotic.
According to police sources, the arrest came after a well-coordinated undercover operation. A day prior to the raid, law enforcement officials deployed a decoy customer to the suspect’s house to verify reports of drug dealing. After confirming the sale of brown sugar, a special police team swooped in during the night and arrested the woman in the act of handing over a packet of the narcotic.
During a thorough search of the premises, 18 packets of brown sugar were seized. The narcotics have been sent to a forensic laboratory for detailed analysis.
Officials suspect that following Wasim Baccha’s imprisonment, his residence had transformed into a hub for drug trafficking, with his mother allegedly taking over the operations. “We had received inputs about renewed drug activity at this address, and the raid has confirmed our suspicions,” said the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mango police station.
A case is being registered under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused woman remains in custody and is likely to be remanded to judicial custody later today.
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of a larger drug network operating in the region. “We are investigating leads to identify other individuals who may be connected to this illegal trade,” said a senior police officer, hinting at further arrests in the coming days.
