Jamshedpur: A delegation of Zila Parishad members led by its chairperson Sonia Samant today met the deputy commissioner of East Singhbhum Dr Amitabh Kaushal to demand compensation for the shopkeepers affected by the major fire that broke out late night on 8th October last in Mosabani market. A memorandum was handed over to the DC in this connection.

Samant said around 40 shops were gutted in the fire that broke out around midnight. Goods worth several lakh were destroyed in the mishap. Despite five days having passed since the incident, the district administration has not provided compensation to the fire victims as yet, said Samant.

“Most of the victims do not have any other source of income than the shops that were gutted in the fire. Now they are finding it difficult to rebuild their shops in want of financial help,” the Zila Parishad chairperson said.

The affected villagers said they should be given compensation from the crisis management fund.
