Hudhud effect: Krishna Puri residents taken hostage by rainwater

Jamshedpur: The residents of Madhusans Shree Krishna Puri apartments at Dimna Road were in for an unpleasant experience Monday morning when they stepped down the stairs of the building after last nights cyclonic downpour.

The underground floor of the building was submerged with neck-deep rainwater which accumulated overnight through the open downward entrance of the building via the underground floor.

None of the residents could step out of the building due to inundation and fear of electrocution due to presence of power supply cables and switchbox.

Soon an alarm was raised through phone which led local administrative officials to rush to the venue to provide relief to the residents.

State agriculture minister and MLA of Jamshedpur West Banna Gupta and BJP leader Saryu Roy too, reached the building and arranged for helping the residents come out of the situation.

The SDO of Dhalbhum Prem Ranjan and the special officer of Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC) reached the spot and made arrangement to remove the rainwater out through suction pump. After hours of efforts, the water was removed from the underground floor.

The residents alleged that the building was constructed by flouting norms and that the incident had exposed the loopholes in the building. They said they had invested their lifelong savings in the apartments that had failed to live up to their expectations.

The SDO assured to take necessary action to ensure that the flooding incident was not repeated.
