Ranchi, July 11: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Ranchi has reported that the monsoon trough was shifting towards the Bay of Bengal via Bikaner, Jaipur, Odai, Balia, Asansol, and Bagti. Many districts in Jharkhand experienced heavy rains due to the cyclonic circulation over Assam and its adjoining areas, and Odisha. The trend was expected to continue on Friday, July 12, with forecasts predicting significant rainfall and possible thunderstorms in several areas.
Abhishek Anand, head of the Ranchi-based weather center, stated that a yellow alert had been issued for Friday due to the likelihood of thunderstorms and lightning. On Thursday, several districts, including Ranchi, received substantial rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
The meteorologist also mentioned that the maximum temperature in Jharkhand was expected to drop by 2 to 3 degrees over the next three days, offering relief from the heat. Following this period, no major temperature changes were anticipated for the subsequent two days. On July 13, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms was expected in many areas.
In the past 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall was recorded at numerous locations, with heavy rainfall occurring despite weak monsoon activity. Dumri in Gumla district received the highest rainfall of 70.8 mm, while Saraikela recorded the highest temperature at 39.1 degrees Celsius. The lowest minimum temperature of 25.4 degrees Celsius was recorded at the Ranchi weather center.
