Monsoon showers bring Jamshedpur to a halt

Jamshedpur: In a dramatic turn of weather events, heavy monsoon showers on Tuesday brought the city to a standstill for several hours. According to the weather department, the city recorded a significant 15 mm of rainfall, which was enough to disrupt the daily routines and cause widespread inconvenience.

The downpour began early in the morning and continued steadily throughout the day. As a result, several parts of the city experienced severe waterlogging. Notable areas affected included Jugsalai, Bistupur, and Sakchi, where streets turned into virtual rivers, making transportation a nightmare for commuters.

Residents and businesses in these areas faced considerable challenges. In Jugsalai, pedestrians waded through ankle-deep water, while motorists struggled with submerged roads and stalled vehicles. Bistupur, a bustling commercial hub, saw its usually busy streets deserted as shopkeepers struggled to keep water from seeping into their establishments. In Sakchi, a similar story unfolded with traffic coming to a standstill as vehicles navigated the flooded streets.

Many residents expressed their frustration and concern over the city’s drainage system, which proved inadequate in handling the heavy rainfall. “Every year, it’s the same story. The drainage system fails, and we are left to deal with the flooding,” lamented a local shopkeeper in Bistupur.

Despite the challenges, the weather department predicts that the heavy rains will subside in the coming days, providing some relief to the waterlogged city. However, the recent showers serve as a stark reminder of the need for better infrastructure and preparedness to handle such weather events in the future.
