‘Beyond Business: Impact of Tata Group’: Coffee table book celebrating Group’s contributions to nation building

Jamshedpur, August 6: The Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) will publish a coffee table book titled, ‘Beyond Business: Impact of Tata Group,’ edited by Sandeep Murarka. The book will feature a beautiful cover and approximately 170 colored pages, detailing the Tata Group’s significant contributions to nation-building.

The initial pages of the book will include photographs of the Tata family with personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

Honoring Tata Group’s Legacy

The Government of India has honored the Tata Group’s outstanding achievements with numerous prestigious awards. Right from the inception of the Padma Awards in 1954, Tata family has been awarded three Bharat Ratnas, seventeen Padma Vibhushans, sixty-two Padma Bhushans, and ninety-one Padma Shris. Only one Bharat Ratna has been awarded in the field of industry and business, received by former Tata Group Chairman J. R. D. Tata. Additionally, former directors of the Indian Institute of Science, Prof. C.N. Ramachandra Rao and Dr. C.V. Raman, have also been awarded the Bharat Ratna. These gliuttering achievements find mention in the coffee table book.

Beyond Business: A Legacy of Excellence

The book includes the achievements of a comprehensive list of doctors, scientists, and engineers associated with Tata.Personalities associated with Tatas have received five Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Awards, nine Dronacharya Awards, eighty-nine Arjuna Awards, five Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards, and five National Sports Promotion Awards.

Celebrating Mount Everest Conquerors

Vijay Anand Moonka, President of the SCCI highlighted the achievements of the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation. Thirteen trained mountaineers from this institution have scaled Mount Everest and other global peaks. Their stories are also included in the book.

Eight Chapters on Tata’s Impact

Vice President Abhishek Agarwal Goldie explained that the book includes introductions to nine prominent personalities connected to Tata who have received Padma awards. Notable figures include Verghese Kurien, Sudha Murthy, Venu Srinivasan, and Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala. The book also honors Fatima Zakaria, editor of Hotel Taj’s magazine, Taj, with a Padma Shri.

Commemorative Coins and Stamps

Lipu Sharma, PRW Secretary of the SCCI mentioned that the book documents coins, postage stamps, and special covers issued in Tata’s honor. This chapter was compiled by Prem Piyush Kumar and Pritam Basu of the Jamshedpur Coin Collectors Club.

Book Design and Launch

The cover and colorful pages of the book have been designed by Neeraj Kumar Pathak of Gwalior, an Assistant Professor at ITM University. The English translation of the Hindi text was done by Anand Mohan Choubey, a retired officer of the State Bank of India. The book is scheduled to launch on August 26, marking the 117th anniversary of Tata Steel Limited’s establishment.

A historical trail

The book projects that while in 1903, the British were passing the Victoria Memorial Act in London’s Parliament Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata held the world spellbound by inaugurating the Taj Hotel in Mumbai (then Bombay). This iconic establishment marked the beginning of Tata’s remarkable journey, evolving from textiles to Titan and expanding its unique identity from salt to IT, making Tata products available in around 150 countries.

Contributions to nation building

Beyond industry, the Tata Group has established prestigious institutions like IISc, TIFR, HBCSE, CAM, ICTS, NCRA, NCBS, and NIAS. These institutions are renowned globally, showcasing Tata’s praiseworthy, exemplary, and unparalleled contribution to nation-building.

Tata’s diverse impact

For residents of Jamshedpur and beyond, the Tata Group represents a multifaceted legacy. Tata creates sportspersons, engineers, scientists, human values, and self-confidence. Above all, Tata Group’s contributions are pivotal in building a prosperous nation.

The book draws a parallel between the stories of the tribal community and the Tata family. Just as removing tribal stories from the country’s history would erase ancient culture and heritage, removing Tata’s contributions would set back the nation’s development and modernity dreams by a century.
