Jamshedpur, April 29: What is a MUN? Model United Nations, also known as Model UN is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically role-play delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees.
Schools have been organizing Model United Nation or MUN to make students aware about the functioning of UNO.
It helps students to understand and appreciate International Relations and Politics of the Globe.
DAV Bistupur organized a similar intra-school MUN to familiarize the students of the school with the procedures of the MUN or the United Nations itself. The conference convened to discuss the problem of illegal smuggling of drugs and other goods in different countries.
The MUN compromised of two committees-the General Assembly and the Security Council. All the delegates representing the nations were students of the school.
The committees commenced after a short joint briefing session of both committees by the Secretary General cum Guest Delegate of Somalia-Siddharth Kahali.
It was followed by the Principal’s address to inspire and encourage the students and let them understand why it is necessary for today’s students to excel in communication skills and address serious global issues and how involvement in such conferences will felicitate development of these skills.
The United Nation is basically a parliament of nations in which delegates from all countries of the world meet to discuss global issues.
Thousands of middle, high school and college students across the country and around the world participate in Model United Nations which involves substantial researching, public speaking, debating, writing skills as well as critical thinking teamwork and leadership abilities.
