Mob attack in Sakchi’s Sanjay Market market, cash looted

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur, Oct 3: Tension gripped Sakchi’s Sanjay Market on Friday when over 100 youths suddenly stormed the area near Hanuman Temple, attacked shopkeepers, and looted cash, leaving several injured and triggering panic in the bustling marketplace.

Mobile shop owner Nitin Srivastava, garment trader Amrit, and his father were seriously injured in the assault, while Nitin’s father Naresh Srivastava sustained minor injuries.

During the attack, the mob snatched  Rs 22,000 in cash from Naresh.

Nitin said the violence began when a few youths arrived at his shop and started abusing him.

Within minutes, a large mob armed with pistols and sharp weapons gathered and launched a violent attack, forcing traders to shut their shops and flee for safety.

While most attackers escaped, three were caught by local shopkeepers and handed over to Sakchi police.

Two days earlier, Nitin had a dispute with Raj Singh’s staff over shop space, which was resolved locally. Friday’s assault is believed to be linked to that incident.

Police have registered a case and deployed additional forces in the area. The attack has sparked outrage among traders, who have demanded strict action, pointing out that a broad daylight armed assault raises serious law-and-order concerns.
