Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur West MLA Banna Gupta sat on agitation at Mango bridge on Monday to protest alleged demand for bribe by a traffic cop to allow a truck carrying transformers to pass the bridge checkpost.
Gupta alleged that the traffic official had demanded Rs 2000 for allowing the vehicle to go through the bridge and enter Mango. The vehicle was carrying transformers to the power sub-station at Mango for replacing two burnt transformers. As a result of alleged demand for bribe, the vehicles could not reach its destination in time.
SP (city) Kartik S reached the venue and talked to the legislator. He tried to persuade him to give up agitation and assured to probe into the allegation against the traffic police jawan.
The MLA said measures should be taken against the errant traffic police officer for demanding bribe. He said he would go on indefinite agitation in case action was not taken against the accused cop.
Gupta finally agreed to quit the protest on assurance from senior cops regarding action against errant traffic police officers.
