Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur (East) MLA Purnima Sahu has criticized the state government for its slow approach toward two major road projects in the city, saying both schemes are crucial to ease traffic congestion and pollution. She pointed out that despite being inaugurated in 2019, the projects have seen no substantial progress for the past six years, leaving residents to struggle with jams and rising pollution.
“These projects are vital for Jamshedpur. Once completed, they will not only decongest the city but also divert heavy vehicles outside, reducing pollution levels,” Sahu said, alleging that the government is moving “at a snail’s pace” despite the city contributing significant revenue to the state.
The first project is a 1,540-meter 4-lane elevated corridor from Anna Chowk to Govindpur, including a cable-stayed bridge. The project has been stalled due to litigation, with the earlier contractor, S.P. Singla Construction Pvt. Ltd., filing a case in the Delhi High Court after termination of the agreement. Related arbitration proceedings are also pending in Ranchi, while the government has claimed that approval for forest land diversion along the alignment is still being processed.
The second project involves the construction of a 4-lane high-level bridge over the Subarnarekha river from Bhuinyandih-Litti Chowk to Milai Pahadi on NH-33, covering 3.681 km. The government stated that revised drawings are being finalized after confirmatory boring work and assured that construction will begin soon.
Sahu urged the government to act decisively, resolve legal hurdles and ensure timely execution. “The people of Jamshedpur cannot be made to wait indefinitely. The projects must begin at the earliest to provide much-needed relief,” she emphasized.
