MLA lays foundation stone for rural development projects in Potka

Jamshedpur: In a significant move aimed at promoting rural development and preserving indigenous culture, Potka MLA Sanjib Sardar laid the foundation stone for four Lamps buildings and one Dhumkudia Bhawan in Chakdi. The foundation ceremonies were held across the villages of Rasunchopa, Hensda, Jamda, and Gangadih in the Potka block, where MLA Sardar was warmly welcomed by villagers with traditional rituals.

The projects have been approved with the support of the Cooperative Development Council and the Welfare Department, and are expected to enhance both the agricultural landscape and cultural fabric of the region.

Speaking at a gathering organized after the foundation-laying ceremony, MLA Sardar emphasized the state government’s commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure and improving farmers’ livelihoods. “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the government is working at a fast pace for rural development. The Lamps Bhawan will help farmers become self-reliant by facilitating better access to cooperative schemes,” he said.

Lamps (Large-Sized Agricultural Multi-Purpose Societies) buildings are aimed at supporting the agricultural community with storage, procurement, and distribution facilities, enabling farmers to manage produce efficiently and connect with markets more effectively.

Highlighting the significance of the Dhumkudia Bhawan, Sardar said it would act as a cultural and social center for the tribal community. “This building will preserve our traditional customs and social practices. It will also help connect our youth to their roots and strengthen our cultural identity,” he remarked.

The Dhumkudia Bhawan, a traditional structure in tribal communities, is known for hosting rituals, community meetings, and cultural events. Its revival and formal construction mark an important step in safeguarding indigenous heritage.

The foundation stone for all five buildings was laid in a traditional manner with coconut-breaking rituals, symbolizing auspicious beginnings. Villagers expressed gratitude and called the initiatives a milestone for the region.

Among those present were District Cooperative Officer Asha Toppo, former councilor Chandravati Mahato, Mukhiya Kartik Murmu, Bablu Chaudhary, former Mukhiya Subodh Sardar, and several other local representatives, alongside hundreds of enthusiastic villagers.
