Jamshedpur, June 14: Demonstrating deep humanitarian concern, Potka MLA Sanjib Sardar took prompt action to help the grieving family of Sushma Mahali, a resident of Lipighutu village under Kuldiha Panchayat. Sushma passed away during treatment at Tata Main Hospital (TMH), but her body was withheld due to an unpaid hospital bill amounting to ₹2.28 lakh.
The total medical bill had reached ₹2,58,352, of which the family, facing extreme financial hardship, could pay only ₹29,500. This left them in a helpless situation as the hospital management could not release the body until the dues were cleared.
Upon learning of the incident, MLA Sardar personally intervened and spoke to the TMH authorities. He appealed for relief on humanitarian grounds, citing the family’s poor condition. As a result of his intervention, the hospital waived the outstanding ₹2,28,852, allowing the grieving family to conduct the last rites of their loved one.
Sushma Mahali’s family expressed deep gratitude to the MLA. Overcome with emotion, they shared that his timely help brought them relief in their darkest hour.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Sanjib Sardar said, “Public service is the true service. It is the responsibility of every public representative to share the pain of the people. I will always stand by the poor and needy in every possible way.”
His swift and compassionate response has drawn praise from the local community, highlighting the role of elected leaders in standing up for the people beyond politics.
