Potka: The MLA of Potka Menka Sardar here on Friday conducted a surprise inspection of several development projects in her constituency. She expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace and poor quality of work at several places from Potka to Begnadih. She ordered a probe into alleged irregularities in some of the projects.
Sources said the legislator first inspected the construction work of a road between Potka and Begnadih. The workers complained to her about being paid inadequate sums as daily wage by the contractor concerned. During the inspection, Sardar found out that the road had cracked at several places. Women workers from Chandil were repairing the road.
At Sangram, the road constructed by an agency was found to have developed cracks at several places. Similar complaints were made to the legislator by villagers at more than one place, sources said.
In Mukundpur, the MLA inspected an under-construction culvert. She found out that the workers were covering the old drain constructed a decade ago under SGRY with cement. The local villagers confirmed the MLAís suspicion about the contractor trying to renovate the same old culvert under the new project. The women workers also complained about being underpaid by the contractor.
Apparently dissatisfied over the irregularities, the MLA spoke to the executive engineer Sanjay Singh and directed him to conduct a probe into the discrepancies. Singh said he would begin a probe on Saturday.
