Mishap in cement company complex near Jamshedpur, handyman’s body recovered after five days

Saraikela, Dec 10: The body of Poclain handyman 18 year old Hazaribag resident Mahendra Prajapati was recovered under a slag dump in the Shri Jharkhand Cement Company factory complex in Hansda under Kharsawan police station. According to information, the mishap occurred on the night of December 4 but the body was recovered after five days on the late evening of Wednesday, December 9.

According to information, Naresh Prajapati’s son Mahendra Prajapati hailing from Hazaribag was employed as a Poclain handymen of Siddharth Construction Company that was contracted to Shri Jharkhand Cement Company at Hansda. The report further stated that on December 4, after completion of his night shift at 11 pm, Mahendra went to sleep with his blanket at the slag dump site. In the course, he was buried under the slag mound and died. No one had an inkling of Mahendra’s death.

Early next morning, finding him absent from duty, a search for Mahendra was launched and enquiries were made at his Hazaribag residence. But no trace of the missing handyman was found. A missing information was launched in the Kharsawan police station. On Wednesday, December 9, late evening the continued search for missing Poclain handyman Mahendra Prajapati ended when his body was extracted from under the slag mound. The police took the body under their custody and sent it for postmortem.

The deceased’s father Naresh Prajapati said that his son Mahendra was employed as a Poclain handymen with Siddharth Construction Company. He said that on the night of December 4, at 11 pm, his son, after finishing his night shift went to sleep at the slag dump site, a mistake that resulted in his death.

The DGM of Shri Jharkhand Cement Company RK Singh and the company’s Manager BK Tripathy informed that the company had provided a compensation of Rs 50 thousand in cash and a cheque for Rs Three lakh to the deceased Mahendra Prajapati’s father Naresh Prajapati. They also said that after compliance of all formalities, the insured amount would also be paid to the deceased handyman’s family.
