Minor rape case: DIG meets victim, police take two accused in custody

Jamshedpur, Feb. 13: Deputy inspector general (DIG), Kolhan, Saket Kumar Singh on Tuesday visited Sahara City and spoke to the alleged rape victim and her mother as well as to the house owner Nanak Chandra Seth.

“I visited Sahara City and spoke to the victim about the incident. A detailed inquiry has also been made with her mother and the house owner about the rape incident,” said the DIG.

Singh said the police had taken two of the accused Indrapal Singh Saini and Shiv Kumar Mahto on a three-day remand for interrogation.

As per the medical examination report compiled by a team of doctors at the Sadar Hospital, Khasmahal, the rape victim’s age is now 19 years.

“The investigation is on and we will decide whether to subject these two accused to narco test,” said the DIG.

The DIG further said that investigators are also working on the call detail records (CDRs) and also the mobile tower locations of all accused persons and the victim.
“We will study the report of the CDRs and mobile tower locations of the persons concerned for unveiling the truth. Once these reports are available and the interrogation of the two accused is over, things will get further clear,” said the DIG who is carrying out a scientific investigation into the case.

Significantly, senior SP, Anoop Birthray said although the victim’s present age determination test confirmed her to be 19 year old, still she would be treated as a minor as she had been raped by the accused two years ago when she was a minor.

The probe team constituted by the then East Singhbhum SSP Anoop T Mathew late, comprises DSP headquarter-I K. N Mishra, Mango police station officer-in-charge, Arun Kumar Mahatha, Sakchi Mahila thana in-charge Seema Kumari and Jaduguda thana in-charge, Priyanka Kumari. The team will submit its report to SSP Anup Birtharay.
