Gumla: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by her brother’s friend and his guru in a truck in Gumla district of Jharkhand on November 14. The accused, identified as Kalinder Kachhap and Emmanuel Lakra, were arrested by Bishunpur police on Sunday and sent to judicial custody on Monday.
According to the police, the victim had gone to her grandmother’s house in Banari village of Bishunpur police station area on November 13 to celebrate Diwali. The next day, she received several phone calls from Kachhap, who was a truck driver and a friend of her elder brother. He persuaded her to meet him on the pretext of taking her to see the bauxite mines in the area.
When she reached the road, Kachhap and Lakra, who was his guru and also a truck driver, forcibly made her sit in their truck and drove away. They took turns to rape her in the moving truck and also at Kujam Mines, where they had parked the truck for the night. They threatened to kill her if she raised an alarm or told anyone about the incident.
The next morning, they dropped her near her grandmother’s house and fled. The victim narrated her ordeal to her family members, who lodged a complaint with the police. The police traced the accused with the help of their mobile phone location and arrested them from their respective villages.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The victim has been sent for medical examination and counselling. The police are also investigating the role of the victim’s brother in the crime.
