Jamshedpur: An eight year old girl, identified as Kondi Gope, drowned in a pond in Goelkera on Sunday.
Her sister Polti Gope was rescued from drowning by an eight year-old boy, Vicky Kodah.
Sources said the incident occurred in the morning when the two girls went to take a dip in the pond.
The victims, granddaughters of Patel Gope, a resident of Vishwakarma Chowk, went deep into the water, not knowing how to swim. Soon they started drowning.
Vickey who was standing at the edge of the pond jumped into the pond to save the girls. However, he could only save Polti Gope.
Sources said the two girls were orphaned last year and that they lived with their maternal grandfather.
