Jamshedpur: State Food Minister cum MLA of Jamshedpur West assembly constituency Saryu Roy has asked the Secretary of Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, government of Jharkhand, to make advance arrangements to ensure adequate water supply to Mango residents during peak summer season.
In a letter to the Secretary, Roy complained about the poor condition of infrastructure in the filtration plants of old and new water supply projects at Mango. He said he had visited the filtration plants and water tower at Mango and inspected the pumps and other machinery.
“Out of the two cooling pumps, one is lying dysfunctional for more than a year. The pump at the old project site is also not working. The pump installed at Gandhi Maidan water tower site is burnt and not in working condition. The same condition is with the new water project. Altogether the filtration plants are in shambles and need urgent attention,” Roy said.
Roy said the current condition of the project infrastructure was not capable of dealing with the huge demand of water in Mango. “If the machineries are not repaired or replaced soon, water supply system to the entire area can break down anytime.
This calls for urgent action by the department on war-footing so that the situation is in control,” he said.
The legislator said that alternative arrangements should be kept in place by the authorities concerned to deal with exigency situations.
He said the people were now largely dependent on the piped water supply under the new water supply project and hence they were not prepared to deal with water crisis in the summers.
