Jamshedpur, July 4: The cleaning staff of MGM Hospital under the banner of Asthai Safai Karmchari Sangh (ASKS) today handed a letter of demand to the Deputy Superintendent of the Hospital demanding enhancement in the number of manpower from the present 40 to 120 with the ultimatum that if the Hospital administration did not consider their demand by July 7 the Sangh members would go on strike from July 8.
Earlier the cleaning staff under the ASKS banner had carried out a demonstration in the Hospital premises pertaining to the demand for more manpower. The Union general secretary Ravi Namta informed that 40 cleaning staff members work to maintain cleanliness in the Hospital. He said that prior to February last, the total strength of the cleaning staff stood at 118 but on February 1 the Health Department pruned the number of such employees to 40 making work difficult, strenuous and illness prone for them.
