MGM Hospital takes remedial measures after Health Secretary�s orders

Jamshedpur: Following inspection the state health secretary, the state-run health center MGM Hospital in Sakchi has started taking steps to improve situation.

Hospital deputy superintendent Dr Nakul Chaudhary said that the tender for repairing of air conditioners at the intensive care unit (ICU) is nearing completion and the repairing work would commence from Monday by the selected agency.

Nitin Madan Kulkarni had carried out a surprise inspection at the over 500-bed hospital yesterday evening, had taken the officer to task for not repairing the air conditioners at ICU despite it lying defunct since November. There are six air conditioners at the ICU and all of them need some kind of repairs which is causing problem for critical patients.

All the senior doctors have been directed to strictly follow the roster for duty at the OPDs at the hospital.

The health secretary also directed malnutrition treatment center (MTC) to be connected with corporate units for better facilities to infants. Directive was also issued to the drinking water and sanitation department unit of the district to complete installation of tubewell in the 21 schools at the earliest so that all schools in the district will have drinking water facility by the end of December.

Later, in the evening, health secretary also visited the Sadar Hospital at Khasmahal and the day care center and also inspected the MGM Hospital in Sakchi.

�We are taking the orders of the secretary and working hard to ensure they implemented. The superintendent has directed all the senior doctors to ensure that they sit at the OPDs during evening time too and follow the roster for deputation of doctors at the various OPDs,� said Dr Chaudhary.

The MGM authorities have started process of re-tendering for selecting a new agency for housekeeping and cleanliness work at the hospital. �We have also started tender process for selection of a new agency for cleanliness and housekeeping at the hospital premises and the new agency would be selected soon. The contract for the existing agency which has failed to mend its ways despite repeated warnings will be terminated soon after the new agency is finalized,� said Dr Chaudhary.

MGM Medical College and Hospital is a government hospital with the facility of 540 beds. Everyday around 1000 patients come here for treatment. It may be mentioned that State Government governed Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital, is an Indian medical school established in 1964. It is situated in the outskirts of Jamshedpur near Dimna. The college’s hospital is located in Sakchi.
