Missing MGM Hospital Patient Found Near Sakchi Court

Security Lapse

Jamshedpur: A patient who went missing from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGM Hospital) was later found near the Sakchi Court, raising concerns about security arrangements at the city’s largest government hospital.

The patient reportedly left the hospital premises unnoticed despite the presence of security personnel. His disappearance created panic among hospital staff and family members.

Relatives and local authorities launched a search soon after the incident. They later spotted the patient wandering near the Sakchi Court area and safely escorted him back to the hospital.

Activist Raises Security Concerns

Social activist Vimal Baitha criticised the hospital administration and raised concerns over patients leaving the facility unnoticed.

Speaking to the media, Baitha demanded immediate steps to strengthen security at MGM Hospital. He suggested introducing a mandatory dress code for all admitted patients.

“The absence of a uniform dress code makes it difficult for security guards to identify patients. If patients wear hospital-issued clothing, guards can easily recognise them and stop them from leaving without permission,” he said.

Demand for Better Surveillance

Activists have also demanded a review of the hospital’s CCTV surveillance system. They have urged authorities to deploy more alert security staff at entry and exit gates to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Hospital authorities have not issued an official statement on the incident so far. However, sources said the administration has started an internal inquiry to determine how the patient managed to bypass security.

A senior official of MGM Hospital, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the administration is investigating the matter. The official said strict action would be taken if any security lapses are found.
