Jamshedpur, Jan 9: Members of Jharkhand Rajya Chikitsa Awam Janswatsh Karamachari Sangh on Wednesday met Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College and Hospital (MGMCH) principal and explained why many hospital support staff are not being able to wear uniform to work.
The meeting was chaired by MGM Principal Dr Diwakar Hansda, primarily focused on the recent mandate requiring hospital employees to wear uniforms.
Vice president of the union, Amarnath Singh, said, “Their is a shortage in the supply of the uniforms due to which many hospital employees are not able to wear uniform.”
The union members highlighted the acute shortage of uniforms, leaving many staff members unable to comply with the new rule. Dr. Hansda assured the union members that the issue would be resolved promptly, promising timely delivery of the required uniforms.
In addition to the uniform issue, vice president of the union, Amarnath Singh, raised serious concerns about the health and well-being of workers engaged in construction activities by the L&T company on the hospital premises.
Singh added that poor sanitation and dust emissions from the construction site have led to rising cases of diseases such as tuberculosis (TB) and dengue among laborers.
The union also flagged the lack of basic amenities in government quarters on the MGM campus, where many workers reside. Essential facilities such as water supply and electricity are unavailable, forcing laborers to bear the costs themselves.
