Meteorological Centre issues warning of dense fog in Jamshedpur

Sonari aerodrome records visibility of around 1,200 metres

Jamshedpur: IMD’s Meteorological Centre on Tuesday issued a warning of dense fog especially in southern and central parts of Jharkhand for the next two days. The dense fog was expected to reduce surface visibility in Jamshedpur and other parts of Kolhan and Khunti less than 1,000 meters.

The local IMD observatory at the Sonari aerodrome today recorded a visibility of  around 1,200 metres  soon after the sunrise at around  6.30 am. The visibility gradually improved only after 7.30 am.

“As per our study some places there was fog and in others mist was witnessed early morning affecting visibility. Shallow fog was also witnessed in several areas of Kolhan early in the morning resulting in poor visibility today. Such early morning fog would continue in the next  two days,” said the official of Meteorological Centre

A met official said that the fog was due to the impact of high humidity and low temperature.” This is the transitional phase of weather and fog would occur frequently, especially in those places which are located in high terrain,” he said.  Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed in most parts of the state today including Jamshedpur.

Fog is playing a spoil sport in railways too. From past one week trains are being delayed. Moreover, the trains from north got delayed in other railway divisions before they entered Chakradharpur. In Chakradharpur railway division too the surface visibility was poor early in the morning today.

The movement of long-distance buses to and from Bihar, Bengal, Odisha, and other destinations within the state  was also affected to the fog.

Numerous passengers have been facing trouble due to the delay in long-distance trains and the situation is unchanged for the past few days. Trains for other destinations like Mumbai and Kolkata were also running late.

Some passengers said they had to travel standing though they had confirmed tickets. A few even lodged complaints with the station superintendent.

Its seems there are no end to the woes of passengers as foggy weather in the northern parts of the country, particularly the national capital New Delhi, has  taken a toll on train schedules. The Railways must open extra counter at the railway station for refund of tickets and also to inform the passengers about the latest status of trains, said a passenger.
