Jamshedpur, June 8: In an effort to promote menstrual hygiene awareness, the School Education and Literacy Department has launched a campaign in schools across the state. As part of this initiative, a menstrual hygiene program was recently organized at the upgraded high school in Khukradih, in collaboration with the social organization Nishchay Foundation. The program aimed to educate adolescent girls about menstruation and the importance of maintaining proper hygiene during this time.
During the program, Jharkhand’s Padman, Tarun Kumar, addressed the girls, highlighting that menstruation typically begins between the ages of 10 and 12, coinciding with puberty. He emphasized the significance of proper menstrual hygiene for the overall health and well-being of adolescent girls and women. Failure to maintain adequate hygiene during menstruation can lead to various health issues. To support the cause, all the girls in the school were presented with eco-friendly Project Bala reusable pad kits for menstrual management. Each kit contains three reusable pads, which can be used for approximately two years by washing them regularly. The girls expressed their happiness and relief upon receiving these reusable pads, as they acknowledged the financial challenges associated with purchasing disposable pads every month. It is worth noting that the school has had a sanitary pad bank and an incinerator in place for the past five years. These facilities have played a crucial role in raising awareness about menstrual health among the girls. As part of the program, the Jagriti Foundation donated 100 packets of sanitary pads to the school’s pad bank, further supporting the girls’ menstrual hygiene needs.
