Jamshedpur, Aug. 25: About 3,000 members from various women self help groups (known as sakhi mandals) of East Singhbhum district received smartphones today by Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) today evening at a function in Rajendra Vidyalaya auditorium.
� It is our ambitious project. There are nearly 4,950 sakhi mandals operating in the district and we have given smartphones to each members of 3000 sakhi mandals in the first phase. The remaining sakhi mandals will have smartphones distributed soon,� said district program manager of JSLPS, Shailesh Ranjan.
The distribution was being done under the CM Sakhi Mandal Smartphone Yojana and would have 73,000 smartphones distributed in the first phase across the state between August 24- September 17.
Chief minister Raghubar Das had promised to give smart phones to Panchayat Swyam Sevaks, on the lines of mobile phones distributed by the Prime Minister among members of Sakhi mandals.
The mobile phones are meant to connect the panchayat voluntary workers with digital technology and also enable to establish a seamless connectivity with the relevant state government departments.
The smartphones from Karbonn Mobiles Private Limited (a joint venture between Bangalore based United Telelinks Limited and Noida�s Jaina Marketing and Associates) of K9 Smart model were handed over to 10 sakhi mandal members (symbolically) by the state food and civil supplies minister Saryu Roy.
