Jamshedpur: The Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Thursday reserved its order on the bail application of Abhay Tiwari, the primary accused in the high-profile Bistupur P.S. Case No. 34/2026. The case involves an assault on a local tea vendor, Mehendi Kumari, who sustained severe burn injuries after being splashed with boiling tea.
Arguments in Court
Senior advocate Harsh Pandey, representing the victim, opposed the bail plea. He argued that the offense was a “grave and serious” deliberate assault that resulted in life-altering bodily harm. Pandey urged the court to consider the brutal nature of the act and the accused’s conduct before granting any relief.
After hearing arguments from both the defence and the prosecution, the court perused the case records and opted to reserve its judicial determination for a later date.
The Incident: A Fit of Rage
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on April 6 near the Tata Football Academy. Mehendi Kumari was serving tea when a group of individuals in an SUV placed an order.
The situation turned violent when the group allegedly became agitated over a perceived delay in service. Following a volley of verbal abuse, the accused reportedly picked up a saucepan of boiling tea and hurled it at Kumari. The victim suffered extensive burns across her face, neck, hands, and abdomen.
Status of Investigation and Absconding Accused
While Abhay Tiwari remains in judicial custody, the investigation has hit a snag as several co-accused remain at large. The prosecution informed the court that:
- Sunny Mishra and Prem Kumar have been identified as co-accused.
- The absconding individuals are residents of the Sidhgora and Govindpur areas.
- Law enforcement agencies are currently conducting raids to apprehend the remaining suspects who are evading arrest.
