Bhagalpur: In a tragic incident at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in the Barari area of Bhagalpur, first-year medical student Rajeev Ranjan was found dead in his hostel room, having taken his own life. The police have initiated an investigation, and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been called to the scene. Rajeev’s family, notified of the incident, is en route from Patna to Bhagalpur, and the hostel room will only be opened in their presence.
According to fellow students residing in the college hostel, Rajeev Ranjan, a resident of Patna, had joined JLNMCH in 2022. Struggling with the recent examination results, where he reportedly failed in two-three papers, Rajeev had been grappling with depression in the days leading up to the tragic incident.
The news of the suicide has sparked anger among the students, leading to protests against alleged exploitation by the medical college. Students claim inadequate hostel facilities and an unsupportive academic environment, pointing to the lack of infrastructure and the threat of expulsion for protesting. The superintendent of the medical college found themselves surrounded by irate students expressing their grievances
