Jamshedpur, Sept 11: Congress National Working Committee’s permanent invitee and former Jamshedpur MP Dr Ajoy Kumar met morning walkers on Saturday at Jubilee Park and led a protest march against the district administration in demand for reopening of Jubilee Park and allowing it to function as it was during normal times. Dr Ajoy said that if Jubilee Park was not reopened as in normal times, a mass protest would be organized. “Tata Steel is established on government land, so how can it close the road that has been in existence since before the park was built?”
The Congress leader gave the slogan ‘Chalo Jubilee Park-Kholo Jubilee Park’. He asked on whose order had the company kept the main gate of the park closed in spite of the Jharkhand government had issued an order to open the Park on July 1. “Despite the directive, the company opened the park on July 15 after much pressure was exerted on it and that too from 7 am to 9 am for morning walkers,” said Dr Kumar.
He had earlier requested Tata Steel Utilities Infrastructure and Services Limited (Tata Steel UISL formerly JUSCO) to reopen Jubilee Park. On Thursday, he had requested Chief Minister Hemant Soren to intervene in the matter. Dr. Ajoy Kumar said that Jubilee Park was the centre of the city’s attraction and the citizens of Jamshedpur were very attached to it. “I will try my best to get this beautiful garden reopened to the people of Jamshedpur,” he assured.
Many leaders, supporters, workers and local people of Jamshedpur Congress including Anand Bihari Dubey, Dharmendra Sonkar were present along with Dr Kumar while he interacted with the media. He said that he had spoken to the officials of Tata Steel and even to the district administration and it seemed that the district administration had stayed the reopening of Jubilee Park due to reasons known only to them. The Congress leader questioned during the press talks, “Why is the district administration taking on a dictatorial attitude? The district administration cannot work on its own accord, it has to keep in mind the demand of the people of Jamshedpur that the Park should be opened immediately. When parks have opened in Ranchi, Chaibasa and elsewhere in the State then what is the Jamshedpur district administration waiting for? If the Jubilee Park is not reopened soon, the Congress will be forced to adopt stern measures to make the authorities see the light of legitimacy and give the nod of assent to people’s demands.”
