Chaibasa, Jan. 31: Deputy Commissioner Dr Shantanu Kumar Agrahori chaired the district coordinating body meeting on Tuesday to initiate the Mass Drug administration against Filariasis will begin on February 9 in all the schools followed by the distribution of albendazole and DEC drug and the same drug would also be distributed at Anganbari centers on February 11.
The DEC drug would be given to all except the children under 2 years of age, pregnant women , seriously injured persons , and extremely old man.
The quantity of drug will be given as 100 mg one tablet to the age group of 2-3, two tablets to the age group of 5- 6 years and three tablets would be given away to those who are above 15 years age. The drive will continue for 9 days. DC ensured that the target is to provide 14 lakh people of the district.
The drug would be given by reaching out door to door in all the villages and a total of 5619 people have been engaged in the drive to achieve the target. Each person would provide drugs for 50 to 250 persons. The ANMs, Sahias and MPW would assist the teams for the purpose.
The Filariasis disease is transmitted by Culex, a genus of mosquitoes, and DEC drug should be consumed after taking food only and a total of 226 hydrocele patient have been identified and their operation would be conducted on Tuesday and Friday. The patient would be brought by MPW.
Also present at the meeting were Zila Parishad chairperson Lalmuni Purty, civil surgeon, Chief Medical Officer, district welfare Officer, district education Officer, panchayati Raj officers, district Information and Public Relations Officer, NRHM district program manager and others.
