Ranchi: Suspected Maoists blew up an up line railway track in Barwadih-Gomo rail section near Mayapur siding under McCluskieganj police station area late Saturday night. Two slippers on the track were badly damaged in the impact, police said.

Sources said the incident transpired around 6 am when local railway employees came to know about a part of the railway track blown apart from its position. A goods train about to pass through the route was immediately stopped. Many other trains were stopped on the route.

The rail traffic was hampered for around three and a half hours after which the damaged part of the track was replaced.

The DSP of Khalari Pramod Kesri, inspector Rajendra Prasad and officer in-charge of McCluskieganj PS Prakash Yadav rushed to the scene and began an investigation into the incident with railway police officials.

Cops recovered a 12 volt battery, 50 metre long copper wire and cloth pieces from the scene. They suspect the Maoists had chalked out a major subversive plan, but failed due to alertness of the railway staff.
