Jamshedpur: Amid a sharp decline in groundwater levels and inadequate pipeline-based water supply, the Mango Municipal Corporation has identified 22 localities under its jurisdiction as “Dry Zones,” signaling a deepening water crisis in several parts of the city. The civic body has acknowledged that ensuring sufficient water supply through existing pipelines in these areas has become unfeasible.
To address the pressing need for drinking water among thousands of residents, the Municipal Corporation has initiated a comprehensive tanker-based supply system. Officials informed that water will now be supplied on a daily basis through tankers to all identified areas.
Special arrangements have been made depending on the geographic and infrastructural conditions of each locality. In larger areas such as Bagan Shahi and Ulidih Tribal Ground, high-capacity water tankers will be deployed to meet the demand. Meanwhile, in densely populated neighborhoods with narrow lanes, tractor-mounted tankers will be used to ensure last-mile delivery.
In areas facing acute water shortages, including Post Office Road and Gaur Basti, the administration has set a target of conducting three tanker trips per day to ensure adequate availability of drinking water.
Municipal officials have also appealed to residents to report any persisting water shortages directly to the Municipal Corporation office so that prompt action can be taken.
The 22 localities identified as Dry Zones include Bagan Shahi, Ramakrishna Colony, Ulidih Birsa Road, Kunwar Singh Road, Ulidih Tribal Ground, Jawahar Nagar Road Nos. 4 and 6, Samta Nagar, Post Office Road, Gaur Basti, Shanti Nagar, Laxman Nagar, Gokul Nagar, Repeat Colony, Sukhna Basti, Kuli Road (Jawahar Nagar Road-17), Jawahar Nagar Road Nos. 13B and 13C, Dimna Basti, Subhash Colony, Ekta Nagar, Gudabasa, Kedar Bagan, Kendukocha, and Shyam Nagar.
The move comes as part of an emergency response by the civic body to mitigate the growing water scarcity and ensure that no household is left without access to safe drinking water.
