Jamshedpur : In a bizarre incident a man was assaulted by his in laws and other relatives for allegedly killing her wife.
Sandeep Kumar, husband of Sabita Devi whose body was found hanging at her house in Adityapur was beaten by the in laws near the MGM Medical College mortuary this morning. The local police saved Sandeep by taking him in safe custody at the adjoining MGM police station.
Sabita’s parents from Dhanbad assaulted Kumar as they alleged that the latter had murdered his wife for dowry.
It may be mentioned that the body of Sabita Devi (35) was found hanging at her house in Banta Nagar in Adityapur in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Monday. Though police had registered a case of suicidal death, they had declared that the post-mortem of the body would be done only after the arrival of Sabita’s parents from Dhanbad.
The parents and relatives of the deceased woman arrived Jamshedpur late last night and in the morning they went over to the medical college mortuary to see the body. However they were shocked to see some marks of injury on the body, they started assaulting Sandeep. As the news spread, the authority of post-mortem house called in police who took Sandeep to a safe custody.
Sabita’s father Shiv Shankar Modi has in an FIR lodged with the RIT police station said that his son-in-law and other members of the accused person had been demanding a new car and Rs 1 lakh from him. As they were unable to fulfill the dowry demand, Sandeep and his family members killed Sabita before hanging her body so as to make it a case of suicidal death.
Sub-inspector D N Thakur said that they are investigating into the case and would arrest Sandeep and his father Bharat Burnwal alongwith other accused only if post-mortem report suggests the murder.
